METACAST proposes building a common ground for numerical modelling of continuous casting in Europe. This is key to unleash the modelling potential achieved through RFCS projects to solve casting challenges in the European steel industry. Recent advances on modelling will be disseminated in 3 areas: Fundamental Research, Industrial Applications and Decision-Making. Theoretical knowledge (academic research) and know-how (industrial praxis and applied research) will be united in METACAST to create a universal modelling culture for the steel community. This is done by mapping top expertise (academic and industrial), performing open training/dissemination events and targeting appropriate decision makers including researchers and managers. METACAST intends to develop a comprehensive view of numerical modelling in continuous casting and to offer it to the European steel community, including all the stakeholders from the top managers of steelmaking companies to the researchers and students in universities. METACAST consists of dissemination, awareness-raising, communication, networking, and a particular emphasis on open-access online training and learning reinforcement activities. The creation of a common background on modelling is the key to maximising its impact at the industrial, environmental, and socio-economic levels. The project is funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel of the European Union (RFCS-Grant Agreement No. 101155952)
