K1-MET is one of the leading and internationally renowned metallurgical competence centres for ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy situated in Austria and employs more than 90 researchers. Research is distributed into three areas:
Area 1 – Metallurgical Process Efficiency & Circularity,
Area 2 – Decarbonisation & Sector Coupling
Area 3 – Simulation & Data Analyses.
The in-depth understanding of the continuous casting process at K1-MET is based on extensive modelling activity and corresponding validation of models through lab experiments, industrial plant data and experiences.

SIDENOR I+D is the research and development centre of SIDENOR. It has a head count of 46 persons (87% of them are PhD and engineers) working in 2 departments: Process and Product. It has its own Research Laboratory, which is equipped with modern test facilities both for metallurgical characterization as for physical simulation. It also has capabilities for numerical simulation through the use of both commercial (FEM, etc.) as well as its own developed software.
